Hello,
I was wondering if it would be a good idea to use a fluorocarbon leader attached to 6lb monofilament fishing line when targeting brown trout? Can i just attach the fluorocarbon leader to the monofilament line using a blood knot? Or should i just fill the spool with all fluorocarbon? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
How long should i make the fluorocarbon leader on the monofilament?
I use a fluorcarbon leader on braid as well as mono. Use a blood knot and you are ready to go.

If you use fluorocarbon wet the line while tying the knot. it keeps the line from melting. I would use braid with a fluorocarbon leader.

A very good knot to use would be the No Name Knot. It’s also known as the Albright knot. There are also variations like the Santana Slim and San Diego but let’s just keep this simple. It’s perfect for tying mono to fluorocarbon, braid to fluorocarbon and can even be used with mono to wire. It’s a low profile knot that will easily pass through your guides as well. As far as reliability, it’s very strong. I personally use this knot to tie mono to fluorocarbon exclusively and never had a problem with it. It’s easy to tie ( practically a no brainer) and fast knots means more chances at the fish.. Give it a try: http://www.animatedknots.com/albright/index.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com

The blood knot is the easiest and most popular choice for tying two different lines together.
You could easily fill the whole spool with fluorocarbon, but the problem is, all but the best quality of fluorocarbon line will twist, tangle, and be memory-filled turning into big problems especially on the small spinning reels you use for trout. If you do choose to fill the whole spool with fluorocarbon, the two top choices would be Seaguar INVIZX and P-Line CX when it comes to low-memory and castability on a spinning reel.
