on lake amistad texas

Amistad is usually very clear making line visibility an issue. Also there is lots of underwater brush that wears on your line. Fluorocarbon is very abrasion resistant, has the same refractive index as water making it virtually invisible, and has very little stretch as compared to monofilament. It also sinks making it ideal for crankbaits or any bottom fishing technique where sensitivity is key to landing fish. You also have a good population of huge alligator gar fish there and those toothy critters might just make it all the way to the boat if you hook up with one.

Fluorocarbon line is not just for bass fishing, but for all fishing. However there are many reasons why it is good for bass fishing.

Fluoro line is virtually invisible under the water, and fish have a very hard time seeing it.

The line itself has no stretch and makes for very goo hook sets.

Fluoro line is stronger than mono and you can use less diameter line for bigger situations. Example: you would be recommended to use 20lb mono for flipping and pitching, but you do not have to go more than 17lb in most cases with fluoro line.

Also because fluoro line is stronger you do not get nicks as easily in the line. So you have a lot LESS weak spots in your line that could cause break offs. Although you should always cut about 6-8 inches of line off when changing lures.

Now fluoro line is NOT goof for spinning rods because of the high memory, it will not want to stay on the spool and you get a lot of birds nests. The best way to use fluoro on a spinning rod is use a 12-14lb braid line ( I like Berkley Fireline Crystal) and then use about a 10 Yard fluoro leader tied with a blood knot.

    Hope this helps

Becasue it is stiffer for better feel of ticks and bites, it absorbs less water than mono, and turns invisible (like the Berkley Vanish Transition). Trust me, I have tons of lines for tons of techniques.

Is Lake Amistad clear these days or murky? If it is crystal clear (you can see the botton), then go with Fluoro, if it is murky, save $$.$$ and use mono.

    Good luck and good fishing!

Simple its invisible and works well on bright days, it also sinks making it good for fishing closer to the bottom.

it is good for almost all fishing
1.It is virtually invisable under water
2.It has 0(zero) stretch, so if you move the rod an inch, you move th lure an inch
    3.it is pretty abraion resistent

But, it does have a down side.
It costs an arm and a leg for a good sized spool, but if money is not an object, go for it

In short, now you see it now you don’t. If the water is clear and the fish are spooky or "line shy" the best current remedy is fluorocarbon line as it is very difficult for the fish to see.

it is barely visible at all in the water and has almost no strecth, unlike monfilament. also flourocarbon sinks and you can feel your lure and a bite better then monofilament (which floats).
